You don’t have to navigate the mental healthcare system alone.
I offer a free 10-minute consultation to answer questions and see whether this support fits what you need. Email me at counseling@amariahlove.com to schedule a consultation or ask a question.
Mental healthcare can be difficult to find, access, and navigate—even when you know what kind of help you need. You might feel overwhelmed choosing a therapist or psychiatrist, unsure how to raise a concern with a provider, or stuck trying to put recommendations into practice.
I offer practical, individualized support to help you understand your options, communicate your needs, and take manageable next steps. We focus on what would be useful to you, whether that’s a single consultation or ongoing support.
Find or evaluate mental healthcare
Finding a provider who understands your needs can take a lot of time and energy. I can help you clarify what you’re looking for and make the search more manageable.
We can work on:
- Identifying the qualities, experience, and approach you want in a therapist or psychiatrist
- Reviewing provider profiles and deciding what questions to ask
- Preparing for consultation calls or a first appointment
- Thinking through whether your current provider or treatment approach feels like a good fit
- Exploring next steps if you feel stuck, dismissed, or unsure whether to continue with a provider
You don’t have to be looking for someone new. Sometimes the goal is to get clearer about what’s happening in care you already have.
Prepare to talk with providers
It can be hard to find the words in an appointment, especially when you’re overwhelmed, worried about being dismissed, or unsure what information matters. I can help you organize your thoughts and prepare for those conversations.
This might include:
- Clarifying your questions, priorities, and goals
- Preparing notes or a message for a therapist, psychiatrist, or other provider
- Describing concerns about medication, side effects, or treatment
- Practicing how to ask for clarification, accommodations, or a change in approach
- Identifying what you want your provider to understand before an appointment
For medication concerns, I can help you organize questions and communicate with your prescriber. I don’t make medication decisions or replace guidance from your prescriber.
Navigate treatment and the mental healthcare system
Understanding the next step can be difficult when care involves referrals, appointments, treatment options, or several providers. I can help you sort through information, identify barriers, and decide what questions or actions make sense for you.
We might work on:
- Understanding the options your provider has discussed
- Preparing for a referral or a new provider relationship
- Clarifying what you want from treatment and how to talk about progress
- Identifying barriers that make it hard to start or continue care
- Planning how to raise concerns when something isn’t working for you
My role is to help you understand your options and make your own informed decisions—not to make decisions for you.
Follow through between appointments
Sometimes the hardest part is carrying out a plan after an appointment. If you want support between visits, we can focus on practical steps that feel manageable and fit your needs.
This may include support with:
- Getting started with tools or routines discussed in coaching or treatment
- Breaking a next step into smaller actions
- Following up with a provider or making an appointment
- Communicating with a psychiatrist about concerns or questions
- Adjusting a plan when disability, illness, executive-function challenges, or changing capacity get in the way
Ongoing support may be available by message, email, or phone. I generally respond during weekday hours, usually within 24 hours on weekdays; weekend responses aren’t guaranteed. We’ll agree on the type of support and how it will be billed before beginning.
A flexible service shaped around you
You can reach out for a focused advocacy consultation or ask about ongoing support. We’ll start with what’s happening, what you’ve already tried, and what you want help with now. You don’t need to have the whole situation organized before contacting me.
What this service is—and isn’t
Mental Healthcare Advocacy and Navigation is a consultation and support service. It is not psychotherapy, medical care, diagnosis, or crisis support, and it does not replace care from your therapist, prescriber, or other providers. I can help you clarify concerns, prepare questions, and communicate your needs; your treatment decisions remain yours to make with your providers.
If you’re in crisis or need immediate support, contact the Georgia Crisis and Access Line or call/text 988. For an immediate emergency, call 911.
